Week 20: This Week You are The Size of...

...a banana! 20 weeks marks the halfway point...Baby Burrous is halfway done cooking! He/She weighs about 10 1/2 ounces and is 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel. For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, it is measured from head to toe.

Mom&Dad-to-be in California

We all had a wonderful vacation driving from San Francisco to San Diego with stops in between at San Simeon (Hearst Castle), Santa Monica, Malibu (Duke's Restaurant YUM!), Los Angeles etc. I won't bore you with the entire travelog or the zillions of pictures we took, but here's one of mom, dad and "baby" from our trip.
A few others can be seen via Picassa at this link:

The entire batch would surely put you to sleep...

Week 19: This Week You are The Size of...

...an heirloom tomato! The baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces, and measures 6 inches, head to bottom. The hair on the scalp is sprouting. The baby's brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that the baby may be able to hear voices now!

Week 18: This Week You are The Size of...

From our vacation in California....at 18 weeks, Baby Burrous is the size of a bell pepper! Baby is 5 1/2 inches long and 7 ounces. California has been beautiful so far. We've had great weather, although it's been a bit windy. We're heading out of San Fran today and going south to Monterrey.

Week 17: This Week You are The Size of...

...a turnip! The baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord is growing stronger and thicker. The baby weighs 5 ounces now and is around 5 inches long from head to bottom. The baby can move joints, and sweat glands are starting to develop.

(Honi Gram comment: Gee, not only is it peeing inside, but now it's also sweating--I'm sorta glad I didn't know this information when I was pregnant!).

(Mommy comment: I had a dream the other night that I was taking care of some boxer puppies. The website says that dreaming about taking care of baby animals means that I'm in tune with my instincts. Interesting!)

(another Honi Gram comment: "in tune with her instincts" OF COURSE! I'm not at all surprised!)

Week 16: This Week You are The Size of...

...an AVOCADO!

The baby is 4 1/2 inches long and weighs 3 1/2 ounces. The patterning of the baby's scalp has begun and it's started growing toenails.

The heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

Mom at 15 Weeks

Here's a picture of mom that was taken at Mary and Andrew's wedding this past weekend in Amelia Island. We had so much fun and hope you did too! Mom fed you very well!!
